Abstract

This study examines the methodology of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya regarding contemporary jurisprudential issues (Nawazil) through a foundational and applied study. It aims to introduce his methodology, clarify his role in jurisprudence and ijtihad (independent legal reasoning), and highlight and review the foundations upon which he relied in addressing contemporary issues. The objectives of the study lie in presenting the jurist Ibn Qayyim as an integrated model in foundation, analysis, and application. The study concluded with several key findings, most notably the validity and capacity of Ibn Qayyim's methodology in handling and accommodating contemporary issues. A prominent feature distinguishing his approach is his meticulous care for the jurisprudence of outcomes (Fiqh al-Ma'alat), along with his uniqueness and precision in expanding upon it theoretically and practically, based on harmonizing the text, public interest, and objectives of Islamic law. The study recommended that researchers and authors create a single reference compiling Ibn Qayyim's texts and methodology regarding contemporary issues. It also recommended conducting further applied studies on his methodology in relation to Nawazil in accordance with the rulings of Islamic Sharia.
